Best Barbecue in New York

Finger-lickin' good barbecue can be had all over NYC, with differing levels of authenticity. Check out all our recommendations here.

Blue Smoke
(212) 447-7733
116 E 27th St
New York, NY 10016+8942
Danny Meyer's Blue Smoke serves mouthwatering authentic pit barbecue using prime meats, fowl and fish, accompanied by farm-fresh seasonal vegetable side dishes and soulful home-style akes and pies. The restaurant offers a selection of the best regional barbecue from across the country served with warm hospitality in a bustling atmosphere. Downstairs at Jazz Standard, guests can enjoy some of the best live music in NYC while feasting on Blue Smoke'cuisine.

Bone Lick Park
(212) 647-9600
75 Greenwich Avenue
New York, NY 10014
With a real wood pit and relatively authentic BBQ (by NYC standards), Bone Lick Park has both a nice dining room and outdoor seating (although you might go deaf from all the ambulances arriving at St. Vincent's hospital across the street). All the usual suspects are featured, from baby back ribs to chopped pork, and the prices are certainly fair. $6.95 lunch specials are an especially good deal.

Daisy May's BBQ USA
(212) 977-1500
623 11th Ave.
New York, NY 10036
Now with added seating in a cafeteria-style dining room adjacent to the restaurant, Daisy May's is additionally open seven days a week with extended hours. This is a great thing, because when you get that sudden summer hankering for BBQ, just bring your own beer, order a bunch of dishes (the sides are excellent), a heap of ribs, and that pulled pork as well. You might actually think you are somewhere else in America, augmented of course by the honky-tonk atmosphere of Midtown's Eleventh Avenue

Dallas BBQ - Chelsea
(212) 462-0001
261 8th Ave
New York, NY 10011+1611
One of Chelsea's last-remaining affordable restaurants, you'll find a wonderful cross-section of New Yorkers here enjoying the heaping plates of barbecue. Portions are truly enormous, the side dishes are plentiful, and the Texas-size margaritas and beers served in giant glasses are so heavy you'll barely be able to lift them!

Dinosaur Bar-B-Que BBQ
(212) 694-1777
700 W 125th St
New York, NY 10027
We were thrilled when Dinosaur first opened, expecting everyone from Syracuse to ride down on their Harley-Davidsons. The restaurant imported some local flavor from Upstate, and the result has been a remakable success in west Harlem. With juicy ribs, terrific sandwiches, great sides and a fun bar, the place has been packed since opening. The location near the West Side Highway as well as Fairway Uptown makes it even more convenient. For the big eater, get the full rack, which comes with four side dishes. It's a New York bargain.

Bill's Bar & Burger
(212) 604-0092
22 9th Ave
New York, NY 10014+1204
Bill's has quickly become a place of much contention in the burgeoning New York burger scene, pitting factions against each other who either want to dethrone or crown them forever. The jury is still out, but in the meantime, they definitely serve burgers.

Virgil's Barbecue
(212) 921-9494
152 W 44th St
New York, NY 10036+4025
One of the top rated and most popular barbecue joints in Manhattan, barbecue is a way of life at this Midtown location. Their dedication to offering "real barbecue" led the proprietors to search the South for the secrets of the trade, sampling wide swathes of the best of America's barbecue belt. The resulting menu is one of the world's most stunning arrays of regional cuisine, ranging from all points south and east to create a singular and spectacular treatise on barbecue.
